Abstract

The elucidation and understanding of cancer biology is essential for brain cancer treatment. Despite advancements in surgery and chemoradiation, glioma tumor patients remain living with short life expectancies after diagnosis. Animal models that allow the replication of anatomical and molecular findings of human cancer are thus a necessary approach for cancer research. They have allowed scientists to investigate the mechanisms involved in early tumorigenesis, therapy resistance, and tumor recurrence. Furthermore, the development of such models has refined brain surgery techniques, allowing for successful tumor resections. In addition, personalized medical approaches such as preclinical models have improved the prediction of patients' cancer cell responses to specific conditions.
