Abstract

This chapter is focused on the corrosion and an understanding of its impact on the economy and environment. Different methods to control the corrosion are discussed here. Further, various inhibitors to avoid corrosion are elaborated. Neoteric solvents are the demand of time and ionic liquids (ILs) falls in this category. ILs have shown a promising role in various disciplines of the science. They are explored for different applications like protein stabilization, protein extraction, catalysis, conducting material, corrosion, and others. ILs have received lots of attention in corrosion protection of the metal surface. ILs assisted metal is playing an important role in supporting innovative technological progress to manage the corrosion of metals. A traditional type of insulation creates the environment for moisture and therefore results in corrosion. ILs assisted coatings provide a solution for corrosion resistance and insulation for pipelines, tanks, and others. With the use of ILs as additives for anticorrosion coatings, enhanced surfaces of the pipes, rods, sheets, etc. for prevention of oxidation in extreme coastal environments were observed.
