Abstract

In the future, hydrogen energy and fuel cell technology will likely have an important role in our energy use and savings. In recent years, the operating current density, output power, cold-start capacity, and durability of proton exchange membrane fuel cells have significantly improved with considerable reductions in fuel cell costs. In addition, a large number of fuel cell companies have emerged in China for fuel cell design and fabrication, system and stack assembly, component and material manufacturing, and auxiliary component development. All of this progress indicates that we are at a critical stage in large-scale fuel cell industrialization and commercialization. However, many technical challenges and barriers remain to be overcome.
