Abstract

Centrifugal pumps differ in series. Pumps also differ in parallel configuration. The chapter reviews different applications of centrifugal pumps. In centrifugal pumps, H-Q curve and E-Q curves can be generated for identical as well as unequal pumps, which are in series. It is also important to understand what impact there is when a pump is suddenly shut down. Certain situations where altering pump impellers have altered pipeline capacity are highlighted. Operating a pump involves considerable amount of cost depending upon the usage. The cost of running a pump involves capital cost as well as operating cost. There are different types of pumps that are available. The cost of pumps differs with series and also with the configuration. Utmost care has to be taken to select the option that is cost effective and is as per the requirement of the user. This is to be done in order to avoid unnecessary wastage of capital.
