Abstract

The chapter mainly discusses about the performance of Pd pumps and centrifugal pumps. The performance of centrifugal pumps varies with the pump speed and the impeller size. The usage of centrifugal pumps and Pd pumps can be explained with the help of examples. The performance of centrifugal pumps can be illustrated with the help of graphic plots showing the pressure developed by the pump with respect to flow rate. Some of the other parameters thorough which pump performance can be measured are pump efficiency versus capacity or flow rate and brake horsepower versus capacity or flow rate. The efficiency of a pump is indicated by the energy supplied to the pump by the drive motor and also effective way of utilization in generating the pressure head in the liquid. The efficiency of a pump can be expressed as a function of the pump's internal geometry and its impeller diameter.
