Abstract

This chapter aims to describe the role of Knowledge Exchange within universities and provides some specific insights into technology transfer. This is a broad topic that includes many complex activities and strategic partnership with business partners to contribute to the economy and society. These include research projects sponsored by businesses, use of university facilities by industry, consultancy by members of academic staff, provision of evidence to policy-makers, support for student entrepreneurs, and public engagement with research, as well as technology transfer itself. The topic is very broad and complex, and the chapter aims to give a general and simplified overview, giving also recommendations for further reading.
