Abstract

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a manufacturing method that emerged in the mid-1980s to provide for rapid production needs and flexibility in design. This technological method is used in the production of parts in important industrial areas, such as the aerospace, automotive, biomedical, defense, and energy sectors. In particular, AM methods that were developed by using metal powders are an important step forward for the new and growing industry. Not only the prototype product, but also the finished product can be produced from metal powders by using different methods, such as direct energy deposition, three-dimensional printing, electron beam melting, the laser beam melting. In this chapter, information about AM, its working system, and its importance is given in the first section. In the second section, current studies in the literature on the classification of AM technology and the manufacturing of AlSi10Mg alloy using selective laser melting, selective laser sintering, and direct metal laser sintering techniques are presented in a comparative way.
