Abstract

This case describes changes in a major bank in Denmark. The organizational changes stem from the forces affecting many organizations around the world—increased competition, new technology, and deregulation. The firm merged with several smaller banks, downsized, and in the process, introduced a series of human resource initiatives to develop managers and help them adapt to the changing organizational circumstances and expectations. The changes affected career paths, changed the nature of job security, and increased employees' responsibility for their own development. The HR Department introduced a number of creative programs for new and different career opportunities.
