Abstract

There has been great progress in the tissue engineering of skin. It is an exciting area that offers tangible clinical solutions with an enormous potential for further improvement. There are unique requirements related to the body site, patient, pathology, and extent of the skin needing to be replaced, repaired, or regenerated. This chapter discusses the range of potential solutions that have been developed to overcome these problems. Innovations include multiple combinations of three-dimensional engineered scaffolds with a functional cell load to produce tissue over time, which is fundamental in the clinical selection of the technique.
