Abstract

In previous chapters, we have introduced semi-active seat suspensions with different semi-active devices. This chapter will present the design of a single-degree of freedom active seat suspension for heavy duty vehicles. The proposed seat suspension system directly applies a rotary motor to provide the required active actuation rather than using the conventional linear actuators, such as hydraulic cylinders or linear motors, which require well maintenance and are always expensive when the system requires high force outputs. A gear reducer is applied to amplify the output torque of the motor; thus, a low rated power motor can output a high torque. The designed active seat suspension is cost-effective and suitable for heavy duty vehicles.
