Abstract

Eosinophilic pulmonary disease (EPD) is a heterogeneous group of disorders including the accumulation of eosinophils in the lung parenchyma. All have common characteristics, such as eosinophilia of the blood and/or bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), the presence of areas of increased pulmonary attenuation on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), and eosinophilic infiltration of the lung tissue, which can be detected during biopsy. Idiopathic and secondary EPDs are usually identified. This chapter describes the most frequent EPD such as eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, idiopathic chronic eosinophilic pneumonia, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, and hyrereosonophilic syndrome. Diagnostic approach and algoritm of differential diagnosis are discussed in detail.
