Abstract

Transition metal complexes have a wide range of coordination numbers, oxidation states, geometries, and morphologies. Transition metal complexes, particularly d6 (Fe, Ru, and Os) metal complexes, have received a great deal of attention due to their favorable photophysical and photochemical properties. Polypyridyl based complexes of Fe, Ru, and Os are ideal candidates for a variety of light-driven applications such as solar energy conversion, photocatalyst, imaging, photodynamic therapy, etc. Here, focus is there on the recent developments and different approaches adopted in fine-tuning of photophysical and photochemical properties and applications of polypyridine and related complexes of Fe, Ru, and Os complexes.
