Abstract
Coinage metals, copper, silver, and gold have captured the attention of humans since the early days of metallurgy. More recently, the fascinating coordination chemistry and photochemical and photophysical properties of their complexes have been the focus of myriads of investigations, spawning from fundamental research to exciting applications in pharmaceutical and life-sciences, energy conversion, materials and photocatalysis. In this chapter, the fundamental photophysical and photochemical properties, preparation, and some examples of applications of Cu, Ag and Au complexes are presented, focusing only on molecular, monometallic entities.
