Abstract

Photochemical reactions of coordination compounds have different behavior than their general chemical reactions. It is all due to the electronic transition from the ground state to the excited state. These reactions find a number of application such as use of coordination compounds in photo switches, treatment of cancer through photodynamic therapy, conversion of light energy to electricity through dye-sensitized solar cells, reducing the carbon dioxide to useful synthetic fuels, etc. The list is not complete, photochemistry of coordination compounds will find many new avenues in years to come.
