Abstract

Bioreactors are used to prepare a controlled environment for microorganisms' growth through desired bioreactions. They can produce products from different types of microorganisms ranging from plants to bacteria. As different operational and environmental signals affect biofilm growth, it is a complicated approach to design high-performance bioreactors. In this chapter, main concepts of bioreactor design in terms of mathematical modeling of biofilm as the subject of this book are presented.
