Abstract

This chapter discusses the development and design of smart energy grids (SEGs) with effective strategies and hybrid fuel options. One potential application is the integration with the regional transportation and railway infrastructures as a new green technology. This integration will enable interconnected SEGs to work transparently with the recently stored energy. Railway transportation with an SEG model proposes to balance energy flows between the train's moving and braking energy, energy storage system, and a main power utility network. As an energy optimization tool for the interconnected railway, SEGs can be used for energy management application and for achieving economical costs during operation.
