Abstract

Concept, feature, growth mechanism and technologies of the mono-like cast method are explained as the seed assisted structure control method to obtain a large single grain in the center of an ingot. Using one or several seed crystals arranged on the crucible bottom, a single surface orientation is obtained for efficient texture structure. However, this method has several serious problems such as metal contamination from the seed plates, many small grains grown from the crucible wall and dislocation generation from the seed junctions. Solutions for these problems are precisely explained in this chapter. As arrangement of seed plates are especially important to obtain high-quality ingots, Fe contamination, control of small grains, generation and propagation of dislocations and formation of precipitates are precisely explained on basis of usage of several grain boundaries controlled by the arrangement. The electrical properties, solar cell performance and improvement points are shown for this method.
