Abstract
This chapter portrays the lives and works of the pioneers and Nobel Laureates Victor F. Hess, Carl D. Anderson, Patrick M.S. Blackett, Giuseppe Occhialini, Hideki Yukawa, Cecil F. Powell, Marietta Blau, Pierre Victor Auger, and Manuel Sandoval Vallarta. The accomplishments of these pioneers are described in detail, including the discovery of cosmic radiation, the discovery of Auger electrons and the extensive air showers of cosmic radiation, the discovery of the positron in cosmic radiation showers, the discovery of particle annihilation, Yukawa's prediction of mesons and nuclear forces, Powell's discovery of mesons in the showers of cosmic radiation, and Sandoval Vallarta's contributions to our understanding of cosmic radiation and theoretical physics.
