Abstract

Commissioning, control, and maintenance of ventilation systems section cover both local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems and general ventilation systems. The commissioning part of the section defines first the initial commissioning process in general starting from the definition of owners’ project requirements, covering the design, installation, and start-up processes of systems and equipment as well as the efficient transfer to the operation and maintenance phase and the fine tunings during the first year of operation. The same process steps are then described in detail regarding air-handling units, fans, staircase pressurization fans, ductwork, air diffusion, LEV, fume hoods and biological safety cabinets, HVLS ceiling fans, and fire and smoke dampers. In this chapter, the control principles of ventilation systems discuss both the airflow rate and the supply air conditions controls. In maintenance and inspections part, both the general and local ventilation systems are covered including cleaning and regular inspections of systems.
