Abstract

Local ventilation is used to maintain the indoor local environment by using supply or exhaust airflow. It includes protection of persons, equipment, products, or animals from hazardous and/or nuisance contaminants (including heat). In this chapter, the definition, modes and classification of local ventilation are first introduced in Section 2.1. Then the three main categories of local ventilation are introduced, including: Section 2.2 exhaust hoods, Section 2.3 supply air systems, and Section 2.4 combinations of exhaust hoods and supply systems. In each section, a series of local ventilation systems based on a different flow mechanism and suitable for different work conditions are introduced. Finally, the local ventilation evaluation methods are introduced in Section 2.5, which includes evaluation indices and measurement methods. Through this chapter, readers can fully understand the principles, classification, specific forms, applicability of sources, basic design principles, attention, evaluation indices, and measurement methods of local ventilation.
