Abstract

A major part of forensic anthropology is assessing the biological profile of an individual as the basis for identification. The biological profile contains the estimation of sex, age, ancestry, and stature along with the documentation of the dental status and trauma on the skeleton. Statistical software is often a helpful tool to increase the reliability of the estimations. This chapter presents the statistical methods for the estimation of sex, ancestry, time period, and stature incorporated in the software Fordisc. The software provides various options for classification into sex-ancestry groups and for stature assessment, including discriminant function and linear regression analysis.
