Abstract
This chapter discusses the design of spatial and other 2-D digital filters. It introduces both finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR) filter design. In the FIR case, window function design of rectangular support filters is presented. It then briefly presents a 1-D to 2-D transformation method and a method based on successive projections onto convex sets of frequency domain specifications. In the IIR case, this chapter looks at computer-aided design methods that guarantee bounded-input bounded-output (BIBO) stability and also offer approximation for both magnitude and phase. Both conventional spatial-recursive filters as well as a more general class called fully recursive are considered. Furthermore, this chapter discusses subband/wavelet filter designs for use in the subband/wavelet transform.
