Abstract
Ecology is introduced in this chapter. The importance of ecology in engineering is illustrated. The focus is on thermoregulation. There is much room for further engineering by mimicking how endotherms and ectotherms regulate their body temperature. The parallel between the four classical laws of ecology and the first and second laws of thermodynamics is recognized. The chapter closes with the message that there is much to learn and mimic from natural intelligent designs.
