Abstract
Solvent is any substance in which solutes are able to dissolve. There are different types of solvents available in the current era. Water is considered as the universal solvent, which means that many compounds are soluble in it, but not all. However, for making different compounds soluble, we need different types of solvents. This need can affect the economic demand for the process. This can be solved, to an extent, by the usage of a single solvent that can switch its properties according to the situation. Switchable solvent is a solution for this situation. Different types of switchable solvents are available like switchable polarity solvents, switchable water, and switchable hydrophilicity solvents. Each solvent can reverse its properties according to the application and introduction or removal of carbon dioxide or pH.
