Abstract
Emergence of environmentally benign biocomposites has been witnessed very largely in last few decades owing to rising concerns over environment and global warming. Some of the potential use of bio-based materials and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) can be seen in biomedical engineering and commercial applications and many scientists and researchers consolidated various facts regarding the CNCs paving way to increase their application prospects. Besides the possession of physical, sustainable, and biological properties like antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility, CNCs were seen to have used in biomedical field. Owing to the necessity in biomedical device manufacturing, specialized biomolecules are being added to various CNCs. This chapter comprehensively covers the extraction, processing, and properties of CNCs for drug delivery applications.
