Abstract

The focus of today's manufacturing industry has dramatically shifted from a manufacturer-dominating to a customer-centric manner by involving active user participation along its product life-cycle. In such an era, the rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) enables a promising market of IT-driven product, i.e., smart, connected product (SCP), and also changes the way of interaction between user and manufacturer/service provider in a value co-creation manner. This chapter aims to reveal the essence of value co-creation in Smart PSS development process by leveraging the cutting-edge crowd-sensing techniques. Key elements to ensure its success have been addressed, including SCP development principle, incentive mechanism, human-machine intelligence integration, system architecture, and cost-driven crowd-sensing design process. Also, a case study of value co-creation enabled smart water dispenser maintenance service is illustrated.
