Abstract

This chapter focuses on the problem of selecting a good model for an investigated physical system. First the consequences of selecting a model of too high an order are studied, then some techniques are presented which provide information as to whether a model is acceptable or not. Finally these methods are illustrated for the practical example of the modeling of vibrations of the wings of an aeroplane.
