Abstract
Complete optimization of excitation signals involves both their time and frequency domain behaviours. Optimizing in the time domain results in a minimum crest factor, and an optimal power spectrum can be obtained from the frequency domain. There is, as yet, no analytical nor numerical way of dealing with the two together, so we will study the two partial problems, and combine the results to give a suboptimal solution.
