Abstract

Cell growth is related to cell activities and cell biomass concentration as the cell generates metabolites with specific product. Indirect cell growth is monitored such as cell optical density either by visible or fluorescence light. Cell growth can be projected by kinetic model; the growth curve defines cell behavior in terms of fast or slow growing organism. The cell growth in batch and continuous cultures were investigated. Cell growth is optimized either by suitable media composition or by process variables. In continuous culture, maximum dilution rate can be defined. This chapter covers significant number of examples which has demonstrated suitable kinetic model. The conducted case study was on enzyme kinetic models for resolution of racemic ibuprofen esters in a membrane reactor.
