Abstract

This chapter discusses two forms of e-commerce models “e-government”—-government-to-citizen (G2C) model, which is also known as “government-to-public” (G2P) and “business-to-government” (B2G) model. In the simplest sense, e-government means bringing internet technology into the governmental realm. Governmental organizations at all levels, from municipalities to the federal government, are striving with the same sort of customer/citizen service and support challenges that the private business has tackled since the early 1990s. While it's certainly true that governmental organizations can be technology laggards at times, the almost universal and intense interest in both the citizen facing and business facing sides of e-commerce technology have made e-government a rapidly growing area all across the United States. Further, this chapter discusses that business intelligence and data warehousing should be a from-beginning-factor in both G2C and B2G e-commerce in order to avoid having to retrofit already-in-place business models with business intelligence capabilities, as has commonly occurred in the private sector.
