Abstract

This chapter discusses the creation of intrusion detection system (IDS) and a reporting infrastructure. The different formats and types of data can be gathered from security devices, it is apparent that these reports require a support structure of their own. The chapter illustrates the depth and breadth security logs can cover—from using IDS systems to validate compliance and tracking events in several formats, to using one's firewall logs to geolocate threats and attackers. One important point to consider is that the examples that are presented are a starting point for a typical organization.
