Abstract
Reinforced cement concrete is the combination between ordinary concrete and the steel reinforcement to increase the compressive and tensile strength of concrete to a great extent. Due to steel's cost, availability, and corrosive effect, it becomes necessary in nowadays to find an alternative of steel. As bamboo is cheap, natural, and having tensile strength more than steel, it can be considered as an alternative to steel. In this chapter, an effort has been made to produce bamboo reinforced concrete by using bamboo sticks with varying cross-sections. For characterizing bamboo as reinforcing material, flexural strength test has been performed on this concrete. Mechanical properties of the six bamboo reinforced concrete beam have been investigated and compared with normal reinforced concrete to show the effectiveness of bamboo as reinforcing material.
