Abstract

Vitis species (Vitaceae) are climbing shrubs distributed around North America, Europe, and Asia. These species are rich in phenolic, coumarins, flavonols, anthocyanins, flavanols, and stilbenes which possess important health benefits. It has different pharmacological activities like antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidaemic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer activity. Wine, juice, and oil can be commercially produced from the Vitis species. Various cosmeceuticals and herbal formulations are also available which contain Viti's oil and standardized grape seed powder. This chapter focuses on the scientific progress on fruits of Vitis species related to nutritional and phytochemical composition.
