As the US government's primary biomedical research agency, an important part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) mission is to communicate health information and research discoveries to the public. The chapter reflects the NIH's approaches to clinical researchers dealing with the media. Many concepts are generalizable. You will learn about what triggers media interest in clinical research, how to prepare to engage reporters, and some tips on how to increase the chances that your work will be covered accurately and in a timely way.
