Abstract

Child mental health clinics are no more limited to children with intellectual disability, attention deficit, and hyperactive disorder or learning disorders. Children with academic difficulties without clinically significant diagnosis are frequently brought to these clinics. Irrespective of the etiology of the poor academic performance, these children are often presented with underlying emotional problems with symptoms of anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulty in social interaction, irritability, and low mood. While cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has proven efficacy for adults, it needs more deliberation and consideration of associated factors when applied on children.
