Abstract

Yielding of materials under complex stress states is one of the most important topics in plasticity theory. This chapter illustrates the widely adopted yield criteria, especially Tresca yield criterion and von Mises yield criterion. Comparison between the two yield criteria facilitates the selection of the yield criterion in solving plastic problems. Then, subsequent yield criteria are presented, based on the isotropic hardening model and kinematic hardening model, as well as the combined hardening model. In addition, the physical interpretation and experiment verification of the yield criteria are also briefly described.
