Abstract

The central tenet of tobacco harm reduction is that electronic nicotine delivery products (ENDPs) emit substantially reduced levels of toxicants than cigarettes. It is, therefore, important to select a range of relevant toxicants, or harmful and potentially harmful constituents (HPHCs), measured by appropriate methods, to compare the emissions of ENDPs with those of cigarettes. This chapter summarizes the results of studies that aimed to compare the emissions of both electrically heated tobacco products and e-vapor products with those of cigarettes. Overall, ENDPs emit substantially lower levels of HPHCs than cigarettes.
