Abstract

Firstly, the properties of precious metals and their corresponding oxide catalysts, as well as the commonly used synthesis methods, including hydrothermal/solvent thermal, thermal decomposition, electrochemical methods are briefly introduced. Then the main two performance optimization strategies for noble metal catalysts are introduced. The catalytic activity, stability, and metal utilization of the catalyst can be improved by selecting a good carrier. By alloying precious metals or having special morphology and structure, the catalytic activity of catalysts can be improved obviously. The same catalyst has different performance for different gas evolution reaction. Pt-based noble metals for HER are most widely used because of the best performance while Ir or Ru is used for OER. Therefore, the specific applications of three noble metal oxide-based catalysts are introduced. Finally, the development of noble metal oxide catalyst in recent years is summarized, and some reasonable prospects and expectations are made.
