Abstract

The Hyper-V snap-in is installed automatically on the Windows 2008 Server when the Hyper-V role is installed provided the role is installed on a Standard or Enterprise edition. Virtual networks allow the virtual machine to communicate with the network, the host machine, and other virtual machines. Several types of virtual networks that can be created with the Virtual Network Manager include Private network that allows a virtual machine to communicate only with another virtual machine on the host. Other types include Internal network that sets up communication between the host system and the virtual machines on it, and External network that connects virtual machines and the host physical network. There are several options available to alter the behavior and setup of the virtual machines. One could access the settings options by selecting the virtual machine required to manage from the list in the middle column of the Management console, and then clicking Settings in the right column. Several options are available on the left, with the right pane changing to give the various options available for each action. One of the options is Add Hardware that allows creating another virtual SCSI Controller, Network Adapter, or Legacy Network Adapter. Selecting any of these names would launch the appropriate wizard. Another option is the Memory panel that allows configuring the available RAM for the virtual machine, up to the maximum installed in the host machine.
