Abstract
Since ancient times, natural products have pronounced impact on our health. Natural products and their derivatives either from terrestrial or aquatic sources always open new opportunities in medicinal chemistry. About 50% of the approved drugs during 1981–2010 are either directly derived from natural sources or natural product derivatives. Plants have been used for the treatment of diabetes for centuries. Natural products play an important role in the drug discovery and development of new therapeutic leads for diabetes. Plant-derived antidiabetics continue to remain as the primary source for novel therapeutics. A number of natural products have been screened for glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) translocation activities. Here, we have included and discussed 112 natural products and some natural product derivatives with their GLUT4 translocation activity.
