Abstract

Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy is very useful in the study of paramagnetic complexes. Their geometry can be determined using this technique. The orbital in which the unpaired electron resides can be found. These points are discussed in detail in this chapter. This technique helps to determine the degree of covalency in a complex. Whether a complex has undergone distortion, and if so, what kind of distortion, etc., can be found with this technique. The importance of g-values, hyperfine splitting, Kramer’s degeneracy, and zero-field splitting are also discussed.
