Abstract

A tool that is used for managing e-resources at every step starting right from evaluation, selection, acquisition, renewal/cancelation and license agreements, open access and institutional archives, usage statistics, access rights, single access point and administration is called an Electronic Resource Management System or Software (ERMS). An ERMS is a software package that takes care of all the above-mentioned steps, in the management of e-resources. Today, several companies/vendors/institutions have developed ERM products. There are several software applications in the commercial, open source, and locally developed products category that have been made available for ERM. This chapter deals with the comparison of 10 ERM software applications, while dealing with their description, analysis, and several other facets. Based on this comparison, librarians can have a thorough understanding regarding the facilities offered by ERMS, and can take this as a ready reference to match their needs. This would thus be a very handy tool for making the right choice and decision for selecting ERMS to ensure efficient management of e-resources.
