Abstract

This chapter describes the term “lifecycle” in the context of e-resources, and starts from the acquisition to management of digital collections. In simple words, the lifecycle of an e-resource goes through several stages. The first two stages are “selection” and “evaluation,” which are followed by “acquisition.” Once the resource has been acquired, users are provided “access” to all the information that it contains, and then they are “administered” in the form of administrative modules to the ERMS. The “support management” addresses the problem logs, troubleshooting, and vendor communication; and finally at the end it “evaluates,” after usage statistics, downtime analysis, and users feedback; to see whether it should be “renewed/canceled,” at which point the cycle continues. Thus, it covers the five major components of e-resources such as: (1) acquisition management, (2) access management, (3) administration management, (4) support management, and (5) evaluation monitor management.
