Abstract
The advent of microprocessors and their application in communication systems opened a new horizon for the signal processing techniques (SPTs) in analyzing power system transients. This chapter briefly introduces the importance of SPTs in analyzing power system transients. It also discusses the evolution of advanced SPTs and their advantages and disadvantages. Then, it illustrates two advanced SPTs: the discrete wavelet transform and the Stockwell transform. After an illustration of the targeted SPT, this chapter presents the step-by-step feature extraction processes from the recorded three-phase faulty current signals. Besides, it demonstrates how the extracted features will be fetched for the artificial intelligence tools to develop the intelligent fault diagnosis scheme in power system networks.
