Abstract

The beneficial effect of biocontrol active Trichoderma spp. on plants is a result of plant root colonization, mycoparasitism, plant growth enhancement, and most of all the induction of localized and/or systemic resistance responses as protection against fungal pathogens. Therefore, it is inevitable to identify the fungal elicitors of the different mechanisms of plant response. In this review, we summarize the resent advances in the investigations following this approach to reduce the susceptibility of food and model plants to pathogen infections.
