Abstract

Trichoderma (teleomorph Hypocrea, Ascomycota) is a genus of common filamentous fungi that display a remarkable range of lifestyles and interactions with other fungi, animals and plants. The exploitation of the mycoparasitic properties of Trichoderma in biotechnology and agriculture made the genus well studied and brought it in focus of numerous -omic studies including the six complete genomes (Trichoderma reesei, Trichoderma atroviride and Trichoderma virens, Trichoderma longibrachiatum, Trichoderma asperellum and Trichoderma harzianum sensu stricto) recently released for public access. Present chapter reviews the insides of Trichoderma ecology and physiology trough the genomic perspective that allow this genus to prosper in its natural habitats and serve multiple applications of mankind.
