Abstract

The purpose of inspections of transmission lines is mainly to monitor the operating condition of the lines and environmental conditions along the lines, and to discover hidden dangers that threaten or affect their safe operation in good time. Transmission lines always extend for hundreds or even thousands of kilometers along complicated topographical areas. Conventional on-the-ground inspection has great working strength and low efficiency, and its effect is restricted by many factors, so it is necessary for inspection technology to be improved. With the increase of voltage class and substantial increase in the lengths of transmission lines, in order to improve the quality and efficiency of maintenance, the conventional method of tour inspection needs to be developed to a new stage—a conjoint inspection method deploying helicopter inspection, robot inspection, UAV inspection, and manual inspection.
