Abstract

This chapter looks at research methodology. The irregular shape anchor tests were performed to research the pullout test in loose and dense sand around the irregular shape anchor in a chamber box. Previous researchers adopted full scale, small scale or centrifuge modeling technique to determine the ultimate pullout capacity of plate anchor in sand. The irregular shape anchors were tested in a chamber box and their results were compared to previous theories results. Failure mechanism tests were performed, whereby patterns were made on the extreme pullout loads and embedment ratio. The aim of these tests was to show the behavior of failure mechanism of loose sand and dense around irregular shape anchor due to pullout loading. From the experimental results of this research, an empirical formula was calculated based on breakout factor and embedment ratios in any conditions. Breakout factors were obtained to ultimate pullout capacity.
