Abstract
Part-time working is becoming more popular and widespread in the UK. At the end of 2000 there were approxiniately seven million people working part-time in Britain compared with five and half million some ten years earlier. This represents approximately a quarter of the total workforce. The majority of part-time workers are women - approximately 80% - but there is evidence to suggest that more and more men would like to work part-time if the opportunity arose.
