Abstract

The documentation of a crime scene is done by four methods: notes, videography, still photography, and sketching. They are methods of written, visual, and quantitative records. The legal requirement of relevancy is met by these techniques. Note-taking is the written documentation of the crime scene, the physical evidence, and the activities of the on-scene investigation. Videography is a virtual visual record of the crime scene and the physical evidence for orientation purposes. As with all forms of documentation, it is necessary to include in the documentation information of creation to add reliability to the method.
